Nouvelle découverte Dj/hip hop de Los Angeles, Anthony Valadez!!!!!!!

My friends,

J'aime beaucoup le titre "GO FINAL" feat. Wendisue...

(Flying Lotus...)

the squad

Allez voici une mini interview que j'ai réalisée avec Anthony Valadez pour connaître un peu mieux sa personnalité :

N: Who inspired you to embrace music as a career?
Anthony Valadez : I think just being curious as a kid with a crazy imagination. It was never an actual person but rather buttons, sounds, and being intrigued by melodies and notes. I was into a lot of early soul jazz and Motown as a kid. In terms of it being a career, I was just able to land onto different islands in certain parts of my life that propelled me to the next.
I was doing college radio and had Carlos Nino of Build An Ark // Ammon Contact. He was the one who got me dj gigs @ the legendary Templebar in Los Angeles, and then that landed me a remix for Ammon Contact that came out on Ninja Tune. That then landed me into radio on KCRW.
Carlos Nino

N: Any mentors?
I would have to say Carlos Nino without a doubt. He was the one who was able to take me out of the bedroom as a dj/beatmaker and into this realm where it now pays my rent and allows me to build bridges with other creative forces. But it is his ability to lead various creative forces into a final project that I admire and actually utilize in my own creative projects.

N: How would you define your style of music?
Anthony Valadez :I am definitely into the whole beat thing. Ive been making beats since my days of spinning Blackmoon in the 90s. I was always into that gritty kick snare // boombap patterns. But I also enjoyed synth orientated sounds from the Gap Band, Prince, The Time, etc. So I try to incorporate a lot of soul into my beats. I love creating instrumental beats that just help you zone out. There are times when I create a simple 4 bar loop that is a simple melody chop with those 90s kicks and snares and I can listen to that loop for days. But as of late, I am reaching out to live musicians and chopping up their contributions into the over all final product.

N: Could you define your style of djaying? do you feel like you are a musician, an artist ... or just a beatmaker?
Anthony Valadez: djing. It varies. I am a dee jay's dee jay. I dont just sit there and play records and clap dring 3 verses. I actually sweat. I do quick mixes, I cut, I do the tricks, butI also keep in mind that the crowd wants to dance. I do 3 nights a week in LA and keep the crowd moving. During the early part of the night I can do something downtempo and melodic (jazzanova, Fat Freddys Drop, Donnie) but as the night progresses then I do the whole throwbackStevie sound into De la, Tribe, etc. By the end of the night I am usually covered in sweat.

N: Would you qualify your music hip hop?

Anthony Valadez :My music is music. I always try to be true to my ear. But I try to speak with my music. I try to create a vibe, a zone, a mood. I always attempt to create a sound that could speak to a 14 year old kid but that could also be heard by a 70 year old grandparent. I feel music should move people. I do get frustrated with the whole "beat thing" when its just a simple loop and no emotion. I am also guilty of creating those as well. But these days we have kids who create loops all day. And i respect that as an art but music in general should have emotion to some degree. So.. my music is music.

N: Who do you want to collaborate with?
Ben Westbeech! I am loving his vocals.. his layering. that would be nice. Jose James would be fresh indeed.

Bio:

"Anthony Valadez is a dj/artist/grass root pundit and musician based in Los Angeles. Having toured with former Interscope Recording RES, alongside Talib Kweli and Jean Grae, Valadez quickly developed an appreciation for the production side of things.

In 2004, Valadez was handpicked by Carlos Nino (Spaceways Radio//Build An Ark) to remix selections of Ammon Contact's previous work. The finished product featured Lil Sci (John Robinson) and Stacy Epps on vocals. The project was released by Plug Research. This led to his dj/scratch contributions to various projects such as Dwight Trible and The Life Force Trio album released on Nina Tune and featured Madlib, Daedelus, Dilla and other beat heavyweights.

In 2006, Valadez was selected by UK heavyweight Tim Westwood to mix and produce his entire mix cd released on Def Jam UK. It is there that Valadez developed an appreciation for the brokenbeat/UK Soul/House sound that was taking place there. What makes Anthony Valadez unique is his ability to skip outside of circles and adapt to sounds and styles. As a visual artist, he is consistently making parallels between sound + sight. "The more I develop an understanding of photoshop, the more my ear tends to change and develop a new sound with the MPC and keys. I look at music as this collage of visuals, the physicals, and environments that surround us, pour into the sound I create".

As a Los Angeles based Dj, Valadez has had the pleasure of opening for the likes of Eric Roberson, Sa Ra Creative Partners, Ben Harper, Les Nubians, Vikter Duplaix, Sy Smith, Meshell Ndegeocello, Van Hunt, and Amel Larrieux. He has also dj'd in the presence of personal heroes Stevie Wonder and Prince."
