« I love music that feels real, that is clearly full of sincerity"
N: First of all, not all the readers may not be familiar with your name, work and productions, coul you introduce yourself ?
Miles Bonny : My name is Miles Bonny. I was born in NYC, grew up in New jersey, and now live and create in Kansas City, Missouri
N: You are known as a hip hop producer, a beat maker, a dj and Vocalist?
Miles Bonny : yes. I also have been playing trumpet more often. Occasionally I'll do some graphic design and phorography but mainly beats and singing... djing
N: You are a multi talented producer who has been noticed by Gilles Peterson last year thanks to the EP "Closer Lover". Can you tell me more about it?
Miles Bonny : true

N: To be honest, I've discovered your productions on myspace in 2007. I 've have been particularly impressed by the song "Closer love". Indeed, you sound like nobody else.
Even though you are "tagged" Hip hop, you productions are much infused with jazz, soul... it is quite sophisticated, nothing compared to the hip hop productions nowadays.... It has been said that producers like yourself are bringing back musicality, authenticity to the hip hop sound. How would you describe your style?
Miles Bonny : I've recently realized how great of an impact growing up in New York with a father who was a professional musician has helped shape my relationship with music. My dad played and continues to play trumpet on Broadway. I grew up attending rehearsals for jazz, latin, symphony, church events, and musicals with him. I attended riverside church in NY which has huge organ. All of these sounds continue to influence my appeciation of honest, authentic music.
I never started making music for the "girls/money/fame" that it seems many others do. I'm interested in AuthentiCity and the potential of music.
I make music for 2 main reasons at this point in time.
1 - To better the lives of others.
2 - for my own entertainment and health. If I didnt create, I'd probably go crazy.
N: I knew about your father who has a strong influence. So I understand, you has a strong passion for music. You sounds idealist in a certain way. I would probably say that you are an artist who has his own vision....
How does this translate in the process of creation knowing that you sing too.?
Miles Bonny : As I continue to sing.. I'm frequently developing into more of who I am. I have been greatly inspired by artits who I love and admire and have no problem acknowledging.
N : Could you give some examples?
Miles Bonny : I love D'angelo, Roy Hargrove, Bilal salaam, W Ellington Felton, Joe Good, Mingus, Monk, Michael Brecker, Nicholas Payton, Blue Mitchell...
N: Leroy Hutson?
Miles Bonny: I grew up on the east coast hip hop/ rnb thing.. mary j blige etc..
yes, Leroy..
Only recently though. When I DJ at one of my nights called THE SAUCE, I frequently play "Time brings on a change"

I love Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway
Madlib, Dilla, Joc Max
Actually, I love music that feels real, that is CLEARLY full of sincerity
I see and hear too many recodings that feel like lies to me.
N: It reminds me of the sentence your posted on your myspace " I don't believe you,"stop lying....
Miles Bonny : I have no choice. Its why I'm alive.. to clarify and make obvious the non-sense that is often sold to the public.
N: So your music reflects your lifestyle and values...
Miles Bonny : Its just that people lie to others, themselves... try to be something they are not. Its a waste of a life's potential.
N: Interesting...Don't you think most of the people are confused?
Miles Bonny : The Bush administration is promoting lies that are devestating the world. Its a mess. I'd say those that are lost need good reliable guidance.. people that care about them. I am someone who cares. I hope to help people throughout my life. I'm a social worker in the daytime now... that has had a large influence on me recently.
N; I did not know that! What kind of people are you working with? teenagers?
Miles Bonny : yes.. mainly male teenagers
N: I like what you are saying. I think this is also due to the fact you are now a father.
Miles Bonny : good point. That is true as well..Although I have always been on the look-out for things that dont make sense to me. And after that happens I try to understand them.
N: It is impossible to miss the sweet picture of your child in your page and in your video "Yes I do"
Miles Bonny: yes.. she is a girl.. but its all good. i love her.

N: I was very touched by this video
Miles Bonny : how is that?
N : How to put that... To see a young artist like you, being down-to-earth, and having values... I find the music very beautiful, soulful. We can feel your sensitivity by your deep voice.
Miles Bonny : thank you. that is how i feel.
N : I don't know how to say that but I feel your sincerity and deep character.that's it! this video is simple, but it has a profound impact on me ...
Miles Bonny : as I examine other artists that are coming up.. I feel like they are too interested in putting on a front.. full of nonsense and angles and ideas that lack historic substance....
To be continued...
